A little history

Originally a home for the blind - today a hotel
In 1937, the Ambulance Committee, Hobro, offered the Danish Society for the Blind a large plot of land in the Østerskoven in Hobro. In the same year, the first holiday home for the blind in Denmark opened
called Solgavehjemmet is inaugurated. With great interest in and expanded activities in Solgavehjemmet, the building became too cramped. That, together with the challenging outdoor areas with slopes and narrow paths, meant that the Danish Society for the Blind - much to the chagrin of many - had to look for new opportunities. For a number of years thereafter, the site functioned as a refugee center and later a family center for families in crisis.

In February 2003, active businessmen Ove Rasmussen and son Jens Rasmussen bought the land and the associated buildings.
For many years, Ove, Jens and many other businessmen had been looking for a hotel in Hobro for customers and guests from out of town.
As early as June 2003, Ove and Jens could begin the transformation into a hotel. Also Jens' wife Hanne Rasmussen, with extensive experience from the restaurant industry,
was included in the collaboration. In November 2003 could Hotel Amerika open the doors and welcome the first guests.

Why the name America?
In the 1800th century, a man returned to Hobro after a number of years in America. He bought some plots of land and built houses, which were locally called "American Houses".
Visiting the "American" was eventually changed to visiting "America", which forms the basis for both the road and hotel names.
