At the harbor in Hobro, at Maritimt Kulturcenter Mariagerfjord, you can dive into the maritime universe with wooden ships, Mariager Fjord's history from the water's side and meet a rare guest who visited the area in 2018.

The Maritime Culture Center Mariagerfjord is a relatively new attraction in Hobro. Here you can step into the maritime world, where especially wooden ships and their manufacture are shown. The Maritime Culture Center has been established in connection with the old wooden shipyard from 1849, which is located right next to it, on the harbor in Hobro

The building that houses the Maritime Culture Center is also called the Shipwright's House. Here you can discover the history and read about how the old ships were restored in the old days, as well as how it is all done today.

As something new in 2020, the famous sperm whale returned home to Hobro, where in December 2018 it ended its days after a 10-day "stay" in Mariager Fjord - primarily in the Hobro harbor basin. This means that you now have the opportunity to see an exhibition with the skeleton of the whale at the Shipwright's House, as well as its enormous heart, which can be viewed up close.

On the roof of the Skibstømrerhuset you can enjoy a unique view of Mariager Fjord and Hobro

From the Shipwrights House, it is possible to follow the shipyard path and walk around Hobro Shipyard, which still functions as a wooden shipyard. Here you can see the fine old wooden ships which are being restored.

Denmark's oldest wooden shipyard

Hobro Værft was built in 1849 as a shipbuilder by shipbuilder P. Møller from Copenhagen. In its more than 170 years of life, the yard has been owned by a large number of important shipbuilders. In 2008, the yard was taken over by Otto and Peter Leth, but is today run by master shipbuilder Peter Leth.

In 2016, the shipyard was completely renovated and expanded to become part of the "Maritimt Kulturcenter Mariagerfjord" so that the public now has direct access to follow the work at the shipyard, thereby preserving the dissemination of the old craft. The ships that visit the shipyard gain great exposure by allowing the museum's guests to follow the restoration, plank by plank.

Several times a year, there are special events in the Maritime Cultural Center - here you can e.g. "Open Shipyard" and the annual Christmas market "Christmas in the Shipyard" are mentioned. The house itself is open daily (from Easter to the autumn holidays) from 10:00-16:00. The yard trail is open almost all year round - during the same time period.
