At Kulturkajen in Hobro, new and old meet. Kulturkajen, which includes both the harbor and the surrounding attractions, is a cultural area full of history, atmosphere and culture. Here you get extra experiences during your holiday!

The old warehouses and historic buildings on the south quay today house cafes, theatres, museums and galleries, while the north quay is still visited by cargo ships from the wider world. Sydkajen is also the port of call for the Turbåden Svanen, which sails on Mariager Fjord throughout the summer and docks in Hobro, Bramslev Bakker, Mariager and Hadsund.

Culture and history gathered in one place

At Kulturkajen you can, among other things, go exploring in The pleasure craft museum, where you can see the ships that formerly belonged to the fjord. Here are experiences for both young and old.

If you are more into theater and immersion, you can see one of the many different performances that are played several times a year at Himmerlands Theatre. THE The Red Warehouse several events of different caliber are held every year, everything from the Fjord Festival, the handicraft exhibition UGE33, fishing events, exhibitions to the former Organic Market, etc.

When hunger needs to be satisfied, it is recommended to visit one of the local cafes, e.g Café K, which has probably the best view in the city right out to the fjord. Enjoy a delicious meal or have a cup of coffee and enjoy the cozy atmosphere at the harbour.

Walk the plank...almost

It is also found at the harbour Maritime Culture Center Mariagerfjord, which is a fairly new attraction built around Hobro old wooden shipyard.

The highlight of the cultural center is undoubtedly the opportunity to follow the restoration of the old ships up close.

From the wave-shaped information building "Shipwrights House", a panoramic path has been established into the old shipyard area, so that the audience can follow the breathtaking work on the ships from a safe distance. Here you can see how planks are changed, masts are planed, rudders are repaired, ropes are braided and much more.

At the top of the Shipwright's House there is an open roof terrace with an absolutely fantastic view over Hobro, the harbor and Mariager Fjord. The terrace is always open, even if you might be visiting Hobro outside the center's opening hours.

The humpback whale

There is no doubt that Kulturkajen is full of many good experiences, but one of the great experiences in 2018 was a little out of the ordinary.

Here, Hobro got an unexpected visit, when a minke whale swam into the harbor basin, where it spent the last 10 days of its life.

Perhaps it had heard about all the cool experiences that are at the harbor in Hobro? Who knows...what we do know is that its skeleton and heart can now be seen in the Shipwright's House. Read more about The humpback whale and its fate or listen to the tale from GoLittle, which is both about this pilot whale and whales in general.
