VisitAre you going on a cycling holiday? Then this route is definitely for you!
Cycle route 32 takes you almost all the way around Denmark's most beautiful fjord, Mariager Fjord, and is often referred to as the country's most beautiful cycle route. Along the route you will experience beautiful and distinctive natural gems, charming villages, exciting cultural and historical places and beautiful landscapes.
The route is approximately 65 km long and winds along dirt and gravel roads, country roads and cycle paths.
In 2025, however, it has become possible to follow the paved cycle path that goes all the way around Mariager Fjord (over the bridge in Hadsund as the easternmost point). This route is approximately 56 km.
Enjoy the beautiful nature
The tour around Denmark's most beautiful fjord offers several highlights along the way. Experience Hobro Østerskov with its majestic trees, whose roots almost reach all the way down to the fjord, or take a break in Mariager's cobblestone streets, where you can just hop off your bike and take a walk around the city. Here you can also explore Thomas Dambo's great troll, Ivan the Eternal, who lives in the Munkholm facility.
On the bike tour you can stop at several places and enjoy the beautiful landscape as well as gain cultural experiences in the towns you pass along the way. For example, experience idyllic Marriages, and take a detour to Hohøj and Alstrup Krat – or make a stop in Dania and the trading town of Hadsund. North of the fjord you can also experience Villestrup Å, Stinesminde and Kielstrup Sø and take a hike on The PANORAMA route in Bramslev BakkerThere are good opportunities to enjoy the view, take a rest, have a meal or buy refreshments and provisions in several places. For example, you can treat yourself to a delicious ice cream in the self-service Ice hut, which lies right on the route between Stinesminde and Høllet.
Route 32 also takes you through Hobro, Mariagerfjord Municipality's largest town, which is beautifully situated at the heart of Mariager Fjord. In Hobro there are plenty of opportunities to eat and enjoy the view from the harbour. Here you will also find plenty of shops and cultural offerings as well as exciting experiences. The most famous is Viking Museum Fyrkat og Fyrkat Ringborg, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage ListAt Fyrkat you can delve into the heyday of the Vikings in Denmark, see the ringfort and the many beautiful finds from the area or visit the Viking Farm, where Viking life is brought to life throughout the summer months. Here the whole family can participate in the many activities of the Viking Age.
Relaunched in 2023
Mariager Fjord Route 32 was realigned in 2023 to improve cycling conditions for the route's users. Among other things, a cycle path was established on the section between Skjellerup and Mariager, which also shortened the route slightly - although only by a few kilometers. In addition, part of the route was realigned so that cycling conditions between Bramslev Bakker and Hobro have become more accessible.

The brochure can also be picked up at the tourist information office at Mariager Salt Center and at Øster Hurup Tourist Information, where we are available during school holidays with guidance and recommendations for the trip.
The route brochure also includes alternative routes for sections with steep climbs or heavy traffic. There are also suggestions for alternative route detours that may suit your wishes better. For example, route 116 to Ajstrup Bugt, route 18 around Hohøj south of Mariager or the trip to Fyrkat southwest of Hobro (route 32), where it is also possible to connect to Hærvejs route no. 3.
If you download the GPS files from Mariagerfjordguiden.dk, please note that they do not show the alternative routes. These are however clearly marked in the folder.
Have fun and fair winds!
