Kongehøjen is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved Stone Age tombs we have in Denmark and is truly worthy of its name.

Excavations in 1961 and the subsequent restoration of the nave showed that it was built in the Funnel Beaker culture in the middle of the Peasant Age around 3.200 BC. It was thus erected long before Denmark in the Viking Age became an actual kingdom. What is particularly impressive about the long jetty is the almost intact curb stone chain (1) with a total of 62 stones along the foot of the mound, as well as the two very well-preserved burial chambers that the mound hides. Part of the explanation for the dowel being so well preserved lies in the fact that it was voluntarily protected as early as 1892, and perhaps also in the fact that, according to popular belief, people could get very hurt if they broke the stone circle around the dowel or tampered with it in some other way .

You can hear the story of Kongehøjen below.
