Oldtidsruten - Hiking route in Alstrup Krat and Hohøj

The ancient route from Hohøj and through Alstrup Krat offers an atmospheric trip through a hilly landscape with varied nature types.

Alstrup Krat is a nature area just outside Mariager by, up the hill along Havndalvej. The area around Alstrup Krat offers several millennia of Danish history and landscaped hiking trails. The ancient route passes by High pitch, which is one of Northern Europe's largest burial mounds. It is majestically located at the top of the hill and therefore has a wonderful view of both Mariager Fjord and Kastbjerg Ådal. Hilly area around Hohøj approx. 110m above the fjord. Hohøj's size is surpassed in this country only by the Jellingehøjene. 

By Hohøj there is a media house where you can read stories about Hohøj and the nearby area. Along the route you will find information boards that, among other things, tells about settlements from the pre-Roman Iron Age, coal mines and wagon shelters from the Second World War.

If you are ready for a longer trip, you can go Hohøj route of 5 km. You will also come by here Mariages idyllic town centre, in addition to Alstrup Krat and Hohøj.
